Joe Bravo has the following to say about his paintings and drawings. “My artwork pays homage to the realism of the Renaissance Masters, the innovation of the Impressionists, the social consciousness of the Mexican Muralists, and I have been influenced by the rich art history of cultures throughout the world. In my art I incorporate creativity, personal expression and technical ability to connect with the viewer on an intellectual, emotional, and spiritual level.”
“Art is universal because people’s thoughts, loves, desires and hopes are universal, which I try to reflect in my art. I consider myself a concept artist, where the concept is the driving force behind the style, medium and content of the artwork that I create. It is also important for an artist to express the collective spirit and consciousness of his/her community as well as their individual soul.”
“I recently did a series of paintings on flour tortillas where I used imagery and icons in Latino culture, from “La Virgin de Guadalupe” to “Dia de Los Muertos” as themes. This was a concept series that allowed me to depict the Hispanic consciousness on a food staple that is thousands of years old. Sometimes I create a work just to convey the beauty of the female form. Other times I do a painting to express a political or social point of view. My goal is to bring an awareness and appreciation of art with its potential to effect us all.”
